I miss those days too. I don't even read music blogs anymore- there's definitely not much joy in "discovering" new bands. Is there anyway to recapture that?

this makes me wish i had been more active in my pursuit of new music. i'm pretty passive in general and for too long that has deprived my ears of fantastic music. never again.

thankfully there are people like you who have the ability to instill that motivation to find, and be inspired by new music.

Hanging out at record stores was a huge thing when I was a teenager - we used to go to the huge HMV on Yonge, Driftwood (now called "Kops" on Queen), Penny Lane and Record Peddler. We used to grill the staff about new music - it was a total educational experience...

I'm going to do a separate post about all of the people that influenced my taste in music, by era! I can't wait.

When I was a kid Hardcore Soundz was the indie record store in Orangeville and my friends and I would hang out there all the time. We got to know the owners (Scott and Cory) really well and they got to know us too. They were experts when it came to recommending new music they thought I would like. I bought everything they suggested and loved it.

If it weren't for them I would never have heard Tortoise or The Sea And Cake and for that I am grateful.
